Black Plastic Music Video Sample

For the Black Plastic Music Video, we were asked to produce a stop motion picture film to the song Club Grotesque by the band Black Plastic. We were advised to watch some of the Black Plastic music videos and research Kevin Grady, one of the members of the band and designer, to get inspiration on how to tackle this project.

The original problem I was trying to solve for this project was what to make the video about. I decided that I would first listen through the entire audio to get a sense and feel for the music. I did this a few times so I was able to visualize what I would want to see based on how the music made me feel. The music had a dark eery feel to it and the lyrics made me think of someone who had an obsession over someone.

My strategy was to make the film about a girl whose ex would not leave them alone and in turn would follow them. After I got my idea, I asked one of my friends if they could potentially help me out with my video and they agreed. We went to numerous locations to find places to take as many pictures as we could so I could use them to create the story I wanted. I also got the idea to create stop motion drawings in certain sections to give it more of an animation feel.
