For the Helvetica 20th Anniversary Trailer project we were asked to produce a trailer based off of the original Documentary "Helvetica" which was a film directed by Gary Hustwit. We were allowed to use clips from the original trailer to create a new and renovated version of the trailer for the 20th anniversary of the film. We were asked to focus on using three dimensional animation tactics and create experiments and remixes to use for our final trailer.
The original problem I was trying to solve for this project was how to freshen up the old trailer while also keeping the key components in the video. I wanted this trailer to feel like a modernized version of the original trailer.
My strategy, similarly to my other projects, was to create something that visually went along with the sound of the music. I also got the idea to add type elements to the video such as the solid and dashed lines used to design fonts and typefaces which is what the film is primarily about. I mixed clips from the original trailer, animations of my own, and other animation experiments done by my peers to create something that felt fresh yet true to the film.
